Australian Broadband Providers

There are more broadband providers around in Australia than you can poke a stick at, and choosing the best one to suit your needs can be an onerous task.

I suggest that you have a look at Broadband Choice. There you can read what users of the various broadband providers think of their services, and search for and compare various broadband plans.

Alternatively, you might like to have a look at Broadband Genie, where you can search for a suitable broadband plan to suit your needs and budget.

There are a few things you should be aware of when selecting a broadband plan:

• Beware of 'too good to be true' plans.... they probably are. Typically (at time of writing), cheap or so-called 'introductory' plans do not give you much in the way of volume of downloads, and if you go over your quota, you can be charged somewhat heavily for the privelege.
• Select a reputable supplier with a good help desk.
• Beware of being 'locked in' to an inappropriate plan
• Be aware of what happens when you exceed your bandwidth quota. Some providers 'throttle' your connection speed until the next quota period. Some will sell you extra data blocks to tide you over to the next quota period. Still others will charge you extra. Such extra charges can become very, very expensive and can suddenly appear on very large bills! Be very wary of plans that automatically charge for excess quota usage.
